Flirting with Disaster!
Their history together started years ago when Carrie admired him from afar and only knew of him from his beautiful piano playing in the apartment building where she lived. At first, they were just friends, but soon a fire ignited between them. However, Austin's shady dealings almost severed their relationship. Austin was supposed to throw a fight in the boxing ring, but at the last minute he decided that he had to win the fight on his own. However, the consequences of this action would turn out dire. After becoming a finalist for the Face of the '90s, Carrie was hit in the face with acid, which was supposed to be for Austin. When Carrie was in the hospital recovering from her injuries, Austin proposed with an engagement ring in his hand, but Carrie thought he did it out of pity and sent him away. They separated for a while and Carrie got corrective plastic surgery. However, it took some time until she could feel comfortable with Austin again. Finally, they reunited.
While enjoying a romantic ski weekend together, Carrie was attacked by an unknown intruder. Unbeknownst to her, it was Alan, who had an obsessive crush on her. Later on, the couple made love for the first time and Alan in turn raped Carrie's sister, Sami. After this, Sami vowed revenge against Carrie to break up her relationship with Austin, so she would feel how it is to be alone. Every time Sami had a problem, she called Austin to her rescue. This put a wedge between him and Carrie, who believed that Sami was faking just so she could be with Austin. When Sami jetted from Salem, Carrie and Austin went to find her and failed, however she did find love with Austin yet again. This time, they got engaged. However, while they were separated, Austin thought that Carrie had slept with Lucas. While drugged by Sami, he slept with her, thinking she was Carrie.
During their wedding, Sami finally returned to Salem and had an announcement. She objected to their union by saying that she was pregnant with Austin's baby. The couple broke up and Austin helped Sami during her pregnancy, even though he longed to be with Carrie.
Carrie tried to find solace with Lucas, and Austin married Sami for the sake of the baby, but when the truth erupted, all of Sami's lies went up in smoke. Kate told everyone that Sami drugged Austin to sleep with her and everyone was in shock that she could do something so terrible. The two lovebirds, Carrie and Austin, got back together and scolded Sami. After some time, Austin wanted a divorce from Sami and the couple decided to marry - again! When they were just about to leave on vacation, Austin hit Sami with his car accidentally. She was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with partial amnesia. She could only remember being happily married to Austin. Carrie pretended to be dating Mike so Sami wouldn't get suspicious of her and Austin. He pretended to be her loving husband, so her memory would come back and he could get her to sign the annulment papers. However, when she did retrieve her memory, she neglected to tell anyone, so Austin would stay married to her.
Carrie and Mike
As Carrie and Mike were trying to fool Sami into thinking they were a couple, a funny thing happened - they started to have feelings for each other. This duo had been friends for a very long time and Carrie had confided in him about how upset she was about being kept apart from Austin. Mike hadn't really cared for anyone since his ex-wife, April, but when he saw how sweet Carrie was, he knew this was the woman for him.
They were inseparable in public and Austin felt more jealous than ever. Time and again, Mike tried to reveal his feelings to Carrie, but he stopped himself because he knew she loved Austin. After they were in a car accident, the two stayed in a motel (WHAT??) where Mike finally confessed all of his love for Carrie, but she had fallen asleep and hadn't heard a thing.
Carrie always thought of Mike as one of her best friends, someone she could tell her deepest and darkest feelings to, but something began to change. Whenever she saw him with any other girls, she got a pang of envy. Was she falling for Mike? Perhaps, but Austin had been the man of her dreams since she could remember. However, Austin continually let her down and Mike was there to fill the void in her heart.
Even though Mike felt strongly for Carrie, he knew the only way to make her happy was to help her expose Sami's lies, which led to his worst nightmare. When Carrie proved that Sami no longer had amnesia and that Will wasn't Austin's son, she and Austin married on the spot. Mike was forced to painfully watch as the one he loved married another and worst of all, she seemed more happy than ever.
The only thing Mike could think to do was to move on with his life and forget about Carrie. He started dating Debra and Carrie was jealous every time she saw them together. But Mike told Debra he was in love with a married woman, but affirmed that he wasn't using her. He also told Carrie that he loved a married woman, but she didn't know that she was that woman.
Things began to steam up between Mike and Carrie even more when she became Mike's publicist for his campaign to be the Chief of Staff at the hospital. Austin knew that Mike had feelings for Carrie, but he couldn't even imagine that Carrie had feelings for him. However, it seemed that Carrie saw a person in Mike that was both her best friend and could be her lover...
Who Does Carrie Want??
She may have a history with Austin, but it seems like Mike is the one who makes her go a-flutter. Austin has disappointed her time and again and Mike has always been there for her, even if his longing heart is breaking inside. Now that Austin is turning to boxing again, a profession he vowed not to do again because all the pain it caused them, Carrie's head is turning toward Mike even more. He is stable, someone she can lean on and confide in. Austin doesn't even notice that his wife might have feelings for this doctor with a heart of gold. So who does Carrie want? The answer is obvious - Mike! She may be married to Austin, but Mike is the one who is on her mind!

Carrie finally makes a decision and it's one you'll never guess. We all thought Carrie was a good girl, one who would never compromise her morals or her marriage, but we were wrong! With Austin preoccupied with boxing and her working closely with the new man of her dreams, Carrie and Mike finally make love. However, this is no fleeting affair. Mike wouldn't have it. They're in love, so how does Austin figure into this whole debacle?
